The benefits of paying for yourself

Here are just some of the benefits of paying for your own healthcare, whether you're paying for yourself or using private healthcare.

Shorter waiting times

Allows you to get treatment quickly, without long waiting times between consultations, appointments and treatment. Long waiting times can affect the nature of your overall recovery and create unwanted stress. With private healthcare, you usually choose the date and time of your appointments and surgery (if applicable), meaning you have control over your treatment schedule. In normal circumstances, it is highly unlikely that your surgery will be cancelled unexpectedly, except in the case of an emergency.

Specialist treatment

Nurses walkingGives you access to specialist treatment plans, surgeries and aftercare directed by experienced Consultant(s) who specialise in treating the condition you may have. If you are struggling with a poorly understood medical condition, a specialist will be able to shed light on your condition and offer relevant treatment options. You might also be able to access certain medication through paid healthcare that you wouldn’t be able to otherwise.

Choose your own Consultant

You can often choose your Consultant based on your health concern, personal research and availability and location. If you require a GP referral for your desired Consultant, you can share your research with your GP. They will offer their advice and refer you to the best Consultant for you.

Choose your own hospital

You can also choose where you receive treatment. This means that, through private healthcare, you can access care in specialist clinics or receive treatment in an area particularly beneficial to you.

Experience specialist aftercare

Nurse and consultantAftercare is a vital part of your overall recovery from trauma, surgery or illness. You gain access to specialist aftercare with a multidisciplinary team of experts, including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses and doctors. How much is private healthcare?

Paying for private healthcare without private medical insurance is simpler than you might think. If you’re interested in paying for your own treatment, but aren't sure how to get started, follow our step-by-step guide to paying for yourself.

Easy payment options

If you choose one of our easy payment options, the process is a little different.

The BMI card

The BMI Card means you borrow a pre-agreed fixed sum that is paid directly to BMI Healthcare.

The card can be used at various points throughout your treatment.

Flexible payments

Our flexible payments option from Chrysalis means you agree to monthly repayments over a period that suits you.

This means you don't have to worry about paying bills during your treatment journey.

Private medical insurance

If you are using private medical insurance for treatment, you need to speak to your insurance provider about any excess on your claim.

They will send you a letter or email advising you on this and whether the payment is due to BMI Healthcare directly or to them.
