Hospitals

BMI Healthcare is the UK’s largest private hospital group and was formed in 1970, when US hospital group AMI acquired its first hospital in the UK, the Harley Street Clinic, and grew to 13 hospitals by 1988.

In 2006 GHG [BMI Healthcare’s corporate group name] was acquired by a consortium led jointly by Netcare Limited, a South African healthcare company listed on the Johannesburg Securities Exchange [JSE], and private equity company Apax Partners.

Between 2007 and present day BMI Healthcare has grown to 59 hospitals and treatment centres in the UK.
