After qualifying in Manchester in 1988 his postgraduate training was undertaken in the North West. He worked at many of the major teaching hospitals including The Christie Hospital Cancer Institute, where Andrew was awarded an MD Thesis in 2000 and after a brief period working in America took up a Consultant post at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 2002.
After nearly three years he moved to Poole to build laparoscopic and pelvic floor surgery locally. Andrew is also a founder of the Southern Pelvic Floor Society establishing working practices in this field locally, and is an elected member of the National Pelvic Floor Society responsible for training of juniors, and ultimately consultants, in the UK.
Mr Clarke is also part of Operation Hernia (OH) which is an independent not-for-profit organisation that provides professional and educational opportunities to surgeons and surgical trainees in the repair of long-standing groin hernias at rural hospitals in the developing world. In late 2017 OH was based in Ghana at Bole District Hospital (352 miles inland) where Mr Clarke operated on around 10 hernias per day.
Mr Clarke holds a regular outpatient clinic at The Harbour Hospital and provides consultations for patients with skin lesions, stomach pain, groin pain, lump in the groin, weight loss, rectal bleeding, itching, skin tags, disordered toileting, continence or constipation, urgency to open bowels, pain whilst coughing and anal pain.
