Personal Profile

Mr Bateman graduated from Nottingham University Medical School and completed his ENT trainman in Nottingham and Sheffield.  He made the decision to specialise in Paediatric ENT and received extra trainman in this in Sheffield and supplemented his training with a sabbatical in Lyon, France. 

He is a previous Hon Secretary of the British Association for Paediatric Otolaryngology and co-director of the Paediatric Emergency Skills Course for Consultants for ENT-UK.  He chairs Smith and Nephew’s ENT Coblation training courses.

Clinical Interests

Mr Bateman is a specialist Paediatric ENT surgeon and devotes his entire clinical practice to the management of ENT problems in children.  Within his NHS practice he has a specialist interest in complex airway reconstruction. 

He has particular interest and expertise in intracapsular tonsillectomy, which carries lower risks and quicker recover than standard techniques, and has been instrumental in the uptake of this technique more widely within the UK and internationally. 

He also has a specialist interest in ear reconstruction and pinnaplasty/correction of prominent ears and is asked to lecture on this subject internationally.
