Personal profile

Mr Bobby Anand is a renowned consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon based in London and Surrey. He is extensively trained and skilled in all aspects of knee surgery.

Bobby graduated from UCL medical school in London. He also completed a degree in Orthopaedic Science during medical training. His specialist orthopaedic training took place in Cambridge and London through the North West Thames training program run through Imperial College London. His love of sport led him to develop his interest in knee surgery and sports injuries very early on in his career. He enhanced his training by completing four top fellowships in knee surgery. He spent time both overseas and, in the UK, to learn from the best. His time in Italy and Melbourne, Australia was very valuable. He was honoured to be awarded the European arthroscopy travelling fellowship in 2013. This gave him the opportunity to travel to meet the top surgeons in Europe to share ideas, techniques, and research.

He has mastered numerous procedures, such as knee arthroscopy, for managing a wide variety of knee-related ailments. This includes issues affecting the meniscus and the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). He is also an expert in the management of knee arthritis, as well as sports traumatology. Other areas where he has expertise includes: robotic partial and total knee replacements, MCL injuries, young adult joint preserving surgery and PCL injuries. He also offers orthobiological “stem cell” solutions and robotic surgery if indicated.

Mr Anand is well known for his sports injuries and patella instability work. Mr Anand looks after players from a number of professional football and rugby clubs. As a result, Mr Anand has acquired considerable knowledge in treating professional athletes. He applies these principles to all of his patients, regardless of their athletic level. He is equally committed to helping the middle-aged athlete or older patient to overcome challenges with the knee to help them pursue their passions.
His research interests are focused around getting patients back to sport or high-level function after knee surgery. He has published extensively on these topics. Furthermore, he is enthusiastic about training and teaching. Mr Anand plays an active role in training junior doctors, including GP trainees and future orthopaedic surgeons. He also teaches on international courses around the world training established consultants and senior trainees on sports knee surgery and joint replacement surgery. Mr Anand has served on international knee committees for the last 6 years for both ESSKA and SICOT.

He is regularly consulted to provide second opinions for patients. He is also referred complex knee problems from his colleagues for specialist opinion.
Mr Anand is heavily involved in designing new surgical techniques to speed up recovery and treat difficult knee problems. He has developed specific techniques for kneecap instability problems and knee ligament problems. The work is being published and demonstrated around the world to help surgeons provide the best possible care for patients.

Having been a good footballer in the past, Bobby understands the mindset of those both young and old who wish to overcome their knee problems as quickly as possible and return to the sport they love. Outside work, he enjoys playing tennis, reading, travel and spending time with his family.
