I am a local respiratory physician with over 15 years experience of dealing with a wide-range of acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer and unexplained chronic cough. My main sub-specialist interest is the diagnosis and management of occupational lung diseases, particulalrly occupational asthma and extrinsic allergic alveolitis. It is in this area that I provide regular teaching to other healthcare workers, and have published a number of peer reviewed articles. I have co-authoured a national standards of care for occupational asthma, and developed this into an e-learning module to improve evidence-based practise amongst GPs.
As well as weekly clinical commitments in occupational and lung cancer clinics, I work as the Deputy Chief Medical Officerfor the Centre for Workplace Health at the national Health and Safety Laboratory in Buxton. I am also an active member of both the national group of occupational respiratory disease specialists (GORDS), and the British Thoracic Society Specialist Advisory Group.
Through the Thornbury clinic I offer a sensible and down to earth clinical opinion for patients around the South Yorkshire and Derbyshire area. In addition to managing general respiratory conditions, other common reasons for referral include patients with chronic cough or unexplained symptoms such as breathlessness.
