Personal Profile

As a qualified orthoptist for 30 years Mrs Sanderson has significant clinical experience and knowledge in all areas of orthoptic practice. As a graduate from Manchester and working in a variety of clinical settings Mrs Sanderson has comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the assessment and diagnosis of orthoptic disorders. She is a specialist for patients with paediatric and adult strabismus, amblyopia, vision deficit, double vision, asthenopia, ocular motility disorders, vision problems arising from maxillo facial trauma, thyroid disorders, myasthenia and MS and has a comprehensive understanding of neurogenic ocular disorders.

Mrs Sanderson has worked in hospital and community settings and works with multidisciplinary professionals including Allied Health professional, school nurses, health visitors, optometrists, endocrinologists, neuro surgeons and ophthalmologists.  This interaction and communication ensures the best delivery of patient care. Mrs Sanderson is also accredited by the Australian orthoptic Board and has practised in Australia.

Advanced Orthoptist

As a senior clinical orthoptist Mrs Sanderson is responsible for ensuring clinical excellence is delivered within the department. She is involved with teaching of undergraduate orthoptic students, school nurses, health visitors, paediatricians and optometrists. She mentors junior members of staff and advises on difficult clinical cases. She provides advise to local optometrist and GP’s regarding orthoptic issues. She is involved with peer reviews and gives advise and training to new graduates. 

Audit and Research

Mrs Sanderson has published research in peer reviewed journals over her career, including British Orthoptic Journal and Journal for Public Health. She has presented her research at clinical conferences in the UK and Europe.  Mrs Sanderson has been and continues to be involved in clinical research and audit within the department.
