Mr Vinod Menon completed his higher surgical training on the All Wales HST rotation, leading to CCST in July 2002. He was appointed as Consultant General, Upper Gastro-Intestinal & Laparoscopic Surgeon at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire in September 2002.

Mr Menon is the Clinical Director for General Surgery, Vascular, Urology, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery and Gastro-enterology at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust. He is also the lead clinician for Upper GI services, Chair of Upper GI Network Site specific group (NSSG) for Arden Cancer Network.

Morbid obesity is becoming increasingly common and more patients are eligible and suitable to undergo such surgery to reduce complications relating to being overweight. Mr Menon is the lead for laparoscopic bariatric services at UHCW NHS Trust. He undertakes laparoscopic bariatric surgery (gastric bands, sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass) intragastric balloon insertion (endoscopic) in addition to laparoscopic treatment of gall bladder disease, anti reflux surgery as well as laparoscopic surgery for hiatal and inguinal hernia. He obtained training in bariatric surgery at Leeds, Sheffield, Salzburg & Prague.

Mr Menon also undertakes endoscopic work as well as surgical treatment for cancers of oesophagus and stomach.
