Kelly Rothwell, MCSP, HCPC
Kelly is a Clinical Services Manager for Physiotherapy with over 25 years’ experience in the NHS, education, occupational health and private sectors. Kelly qualified with a BSc(Hons) in Physiotherapy from the University of East London (affiliated to the Royal London Hospital) in 1993. She has worked at Blackheath Hospital for over 10 years.
Kelly has gained post-graduate specialisms in Sports Physiotherapy (‘PG Diploma AP Phys Sports’ from Queen Marys, University of London, in1997), Women’s health (‘PG Certificate; Continence’ from UEL in 2004) and a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy from University of East London in 2009. Her later qualification as a medicolegal expert witness also enables case referrals to the department.
She has great pride in her team as they are all excellent generalist physiotherapists but each has developed a special interest of note. Together, they form a very comprehensive, progressive team. The team are dedicated to keeping up to date with the latest research to ensure the receipt of the highest quality interventions and equipment for patients. They collaborate closely with each other and the Consultants and to provide the swiftest, most effective recoveries for their patients.
Kelly manages the staff and services across both inpatient and outpatient sites at BMI Blackheath Hospital and has special interests in acupuncture, vestibular and lower limb rehabilitation.
Gillian Fox, MCSP, HCPC
Gillian qualified as a Physiotherapist from The University of Brighton in 2002 and worked in the NHS setting for three years. She has worked at BMI Blackheath Hospital since 2006 as an Outpatient Physiotherapist, but also specialises in Women’s and Men’s Health Physiotherapy.
She has a Post-Graduate certificate in Women’s Health Physiotherapy from the University of Bradford. In Women’s and Men’s Health she will see people with incontinence issues and also help in the management of prolapses.
She will also see ante-natal and post-natal pregnancy related conditions. Gillian treats a range of musculoskeletal conditions and predominantly uses manual therapy, exercise and acupuncture. She will also see patients for post-operative rehabilitation.
Esther Hamm, MCSP, HCPC
Esther qualified in 1983. She spent 25 years working in the NHS and has been working in the private sector for the past seven years.
Esther has specialised in women’s health physiotherapy and the treatment of both adult and paediatric musculoskeletal conditions.
Esther has a CSP endorsed qualification in women’s health physiotherapy. She will treat ladies suffering from incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse as well as ante and post-natal pregnancy related conditions.
Esther will assess and treat adults and children with musculoskeletal conditions and those needing post-operative rehabilitation.
Yewande Gbejuade, MCSP HCPC
Yewande Gbejuade is a specialist Senior Physiotherapist in Hand Therapy at Blackheath Hospital. Prior to pursuing a degree in physiotherapy Miss Gbejuade completed a BSc in Anatomical Sciences with a year in Industry at the University of Manchester.
Keen to bring theory into daily practice she pursued a MSc (pre-reg) in Physiotherapy at the University of Birmingham, qualifying in 2013. On completion of her MSc she went on to complete her clinical rotations in physiotherapy at The Royal Free Hospital in London prior to specialising in hand therapy in 2015.
As a specialist physiotherapist in hand therapy her clinical expertise is in the assessment and treatment of conditions resulting from trauma or acquired deformities in the hand and wrist such as repetitive stress injuries; fractures; dislocations; joint instabilities and inflammatory and degenerative arthritis.
She has clinical skills in the fabrication of thermoplastic splinting, compressive therapy, desensitisation, sensory re-education, wound and scar management and exercise prescription. She has worked in various NHS trusts in England, with clinical experience in treating orthopaedic, plastic and burns conditions affecting the hand and wrist.
She continues to work in the NHS, currently within Chelsea and Westminster Hospital's Adult and Paediatric Burns Unit. She has been actively involved in post-graduate education, completing her BATH level I introduction to hand therapy in 2014, guest lecturing at the University of Brighton and working as a clinical educator to undergraduate physiotherapy students.
She believes in the importance of empowering patients with the knowledge and understanding of their condition to maximise their self-management and recovery of their condition.
Zoe Glitz, Assistant Practitioner
Zoe Glitz has been working as a physiotherapy Assistant at Blackheath since 2015. Having attended the BMI healthcare support programme to develop both physiotherapy assistant knowledge and ability to support the physiotherapy team, she has since completed her ward competencies enabling her to treat patients in a Pre and post surgery capacity.
Prior to joining BMI, she worked as a Personal Trainer and Zumba teacher for 16 years. She also gained a Diploma in Nutritional Therapy. When not at work, she enjoys Pilates, circuit training, salsa dancing and cooking.
Yuliya Coleman, MCSP, HCPC
Yuliya qualified in 2011. She has worked in the NHS across different hospitals in South East London and joined The Blackheath Hospital in 2016.
Yuliya is the senior inpatient physiotherapist at Blackheath Hospital, offering occasional outpatient clinics for her post-operative patients also. As the senior inpatient physiotherapist, Yuliya oversees the physiotherapy care of all referred, medical admissions to the wards, of all surgical patients ranging from general surgery to orthopaedics and all physiotherapy care needed within the high dependency unit.
Yuliya's expertise enables provision and supervision of tailored equipment and rehabilitation needs, enabling a safe transition from surgery through to discharge home for the patients admitted to Blackheath BMI.
Yuliya has attended post graduate training in respiratory care and specialises in respiratory and post-operative physiotherapy.
Laura Jeu Louis, MCSP HCPC
Laura Jeu Louis has over 11 years of experience as a physiotherapist. In 2009, she earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (USA). She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Loyola University Chicago (USA), earned in 2006. She specialises in neuro-rehabilitation including post-stroke and brain injury rehabilitation.
Apart from working part-time at BMI Blackheath Hospital, she is employed at King's College London, where she is a part-time research physiotherapist in a clinical trial study in Multiple Sclerosis.
Prior to her employment at BMI Blackheath Hospital, she was employed at Blackheath Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre in London specialising in traumatic brain injuries and neuro-disabilities. She also was employed as clinical researcher for Imperial College NHS Trust at St Mary’s Hospital, where she worked in a clinical trial setting involving participants living with HTLV/HIV.
Further experience includes previous employment at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Center in Memphis, Tennessee (USA). In this role, she served as a licensed and qualified physiotherapist working in both the inpatient and outpatient departments including extensive subacute and chronic neurological, orthopaedic and spinal rehabilitation conditions. She also worked there as a physiotherapy technician during her training at University.
When not at work, she enjoys running marathons, cooking with her husband, and walking her corgi at Greenwich Park.
Tegan Maybank, Assistant Practitioner
Tegan Maybank has been working at the BMI Blackheath Hospital since June 2015.
During this time she has completed her physiotherapy assistant competencies, remained up to date with all mandatory training, has achieved the level 3 senior healthcare Diploma Apprenticeship and is working towards a degree in Physiotherapy.
Tegan has a background and interest in sport and exercise, having studied a BTEC Diploma in Sport and exercise sciences. She is also qualified in personal training, sports massage therapies and lifeguarding.
Monika Schickedanz, Assistant Practitioner
Monika has been working in the Physiotherapy Department since August 2014 and ensures the smooth running of the day to day office and looks after the administrative side in the department.
She is integral to the department, managing reception, referrals, billing and the booking system.
Having attended the BMI healthcare support programme to develop both physiotherapy assistant knowledge and ability to support the physiotherapy team, Monika is also able to provide clinical assistance and support when necessary plus also provide a fitting service of appliances and provision of walking aids.
Vanesa Acosta, MCSP HCPC
Vanesa Acosta Ruiz has over 12 years of experience as a physiotherapist. She qualified with a Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy in Barcelona in 2008 and, following her graduation, worked in Spain within the field of Orthopaedics. Keen to learn new cultures and languages, Vanesa moved to France in 2009 and spent 7 years living and working in Paris. Whilst in France, Vanesa gained extensive experience across all inpatient and outpatient healthcare settings including acute and chronic neurological conditions and orthopaedics, whilst also becoming an integral part of the 'Back School', giving education and training to patients to prevent or treat their back pain.
Whilst in Paris, Vanesa further progressed her career by studying and successfully achieving three further post-graduate qualifications - the first of which being a post-graduate Diploma in Women's Health in 2010. Following this achievement, Vanesa enjoyed great success in the management of childbirth-related conditions and also musculoskeletal and lymphatic issues associated with breast cancer. Vanesa also continued with career development to also qualify in the 'Meziere Methode' (global postural re-education) from the University of Barcelona in 2012.
In 2017 she then achieved a Master's Degree in Manual Therapy. The skills acquired during this in-depth and challenging course enable Vanesa to offer an extensive repertoire of assessment and treatment skills for all musculoskeletal condition that present to an outpatient department; spinal, upper limb and lower limb conditions. The breadth and depth of knowledge acquired by Vanesa, across multiple fields of expertise and experience together with her array of post-graduate qualifications enables provision of highly effective interventions for her patients.
Vanesa moved to London in 2017 to work within the private sector as a musculoskeletal outpatient therapist with an additional special interest in women's health and oncology. Vanesa joined BMI Blackheath in 2019 and is now a full-time member of the team, treating MSK conditions, Orthopaedics whilst also helping in the Women’s Health Department.
Vanesa can communicate in Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. In her free time, she is achieving the biggest challenge of her life that is being a new mum!
