Oral & maxillofacial surgery in Bromley

Expert assessment and treatment of complex mouth, face, jaw, and neck disorders and concerns

A Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon is dual-qualified in medicine and dentistry, able to treat complex conditions of the mouth, face, jaw, and neck.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is a highly specialised field of medicine, with far fewer Consultants than in other medical specialities. We are delighted to offer fast access to a leading Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon here at The Sloane Hospital in Beckenham, Kent.

Booking a private appointment directly with us provides you with a bespoke approach to treatment. Why not contact us to book your visit today? We would be delighted to help you access any treatment you need without delay.

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery involves the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of problems involving the teeth, mouth, face, jaw, or neck.

Reasons you may visit an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at The Sloane Hospital for help include:

  • Adult Oral Surgery
  • Surgical removal of wisdom teeth, buried roots, buried canine teeth, or impacted teeth
  • Dental implants
  • Facial reconstruction
  • Treatment for cysts or tumours of the jaws
  • Screening for Oral Cancer
  • Biopsy and treatment of lesions of the head and neck - including the lip, mouth, roof of mouth, and tongue
  • Management of problems affecting the soft tissue lining of the mouth – e.g. white patches and mouth ulcers
  • Treatment of salivary gland problems and tumours, including stone removal
  • Investigation and treatment of sinus problems
  • Treatment of facial fractures and lacerations
  • Treatment for disorders of the mandible (lower jaw) and temporomandibular joint (TMJ)
  • Single and double jaw surgery (Bimaxillary Osteotomy)
  • Investigation and treatment of facial or dental pain
  • Surgery to correct dental or facial deformities
  • Facial skin surgery
  • Bone grafting

Due to the complexity of many types of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, you will normally be referred to us by your GP, dentist, a consultant in another speciality such as ENT or Dermatology, or a maxillofacial specialist from outside the region.

Although many treatments can be provided on-site at The Sloane Hospital, more complex surgery may be carried out at an external venue. Treatment will always be from your Consultant and you will never be treated by a more junior doctor.

When you visit for your private appointment at The Sloane Hospital, your Consultant will take a medical history and will talk with you about any symptoms you have. They will ask you questions like:

  • What symptoms do you have?
  • When did these symptoms start / first become noticeable?
  • Do you have any pain in or around your head or neck?
  • Have your symptoms been getting worse?
  • How is your general health? Do you have any underlying medical conditions?

They will often carry out a physical examination and may feel your neck to assess whether your lymph glands are swollen.

During your appointment, any previous investigations you may have had such as dental X-rays, MRI, or CT scans, will be reviewed. (Any of these can be easily arranged for you at the hospital if you haven’t previously had them, or if they are not recent enough. Your Consultant will arrange these if they are needed.)

Similarly, you may be referred for further investigations, either to help with diagnosis or for treatment planning. These may include blood tests, X-ray (of individual teeth or the whole jaw), CT, or MRI scan.

Once results are back, your Consultant will be able to talk through the diagnosis and recommended treatment plan with you. If surgery is required, they will explain how it will be done, the results you should expect to see, and any potential complications or risks you need to be aware of.

You will always have the information you need to make an informed choice about treatment. If you have any questions or concerns, your Consultant will be very happy to discuss these with you.

We will arrange for any treatment to begin as soon as possible.

Many of our patients are from Beckenham and the surrounding areas. Excellent rail access from Central London makes it very easy for people in London to travel to us, and we see people from much further afield as well.

We treat people with private medical insurance and self-pay patients.

While many treatments can be provided on-site, others will need to be carried out at an external venue. Treatment will always be carried out by the Consultant you first see at The Sloane Hospital, and they will continue to oversee and manage your care at every stage.

When you book a private Oral and Maxillofacial appointment with us, you will benefit from:

  • Rapid access – Long waiting times on the NHS can be frustrating for many, as it often means that assessment and treatment is delayed. We can help you avoid these frustrations, by booking you a private appointment with an experienced Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon as soon as possible.
  • More time for you – A private appointment provides you with more time with your Consultant. In some healthcare settings, people can feel they are being hurried out the door almost as soon as they have arrived! This will not be your experience when you visit with us, and you will have plenty of time to talk with your Consultant through your symptoms and concerns.
  • Easy-to-book appointments – Private appointments are simple to book. While most people still prefer to come in to the hospital for their appointment, remote appointments by telephone or video call are available if required (and where clinically appropriate).
  • Consultant-led care – You will always see the same Consultant when you visit and will never be treated by a more junior doctor. Your Consultant will oversee every aspect of your care, from initial appointment through to post-treatment follow-up. This ensures excellent continuity of care.
  • Fast turnaround of diagnostic tests – On-site radiologists report on X-rays, ultrasound and MRI and CT scans promptly, so that the results are back with your Consultant as quickly as possible.
  • A wider team – Your Consultant can discuss complex cases with specialists in other fields when required, including oncology, dermatology, and anaesthetics.
  • Recommended by patients – In an independent survey, 96.3% of patients said they were likely or highly likely to recommend The Sloane Hospital to their friends and family.
  • Location – The hospital is in Beckenham, Kent and easy to access by both road and rail. Our car park is free for patients. Our outpatient’s area has recently been refurbished and provides a warm welcome to all our visitors.

Our experienced Consultants can help with all aspects of Oral & Maxillofacial / Head & Neck Surgery. They will investigate your symptoms, confirm a diagnosis, and create a bespoke treatment plan just for you.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to The Sloane Hospital and helping you to access the Consultant-led care you need as soon as possible.
