Your first consultation will usually last between 30 - 45 minutes, depending on your particular needs. Whether you have already decided exactly what you want or you have a vague idea but aren’t really exactly sure about your ‘what’ and your ‘why’, this consultation is the perfect time to explore possible treatment options in a safe, relaxed atmosphere.
Your consultant will talk you through any suitable treatment options, making sure you have the information you need to make an informed decision about whether to have surgery. They will often be able to show you pre- and post-op photos of people who have previously had the same procedure, so that you can get an idea of the results you could see.
Everybody is different, and these ‘before and after’ photos should only ever be seen as a general guide of what is possible. It is important to be realistic about what can and cannot be achieved with surgery, and your consultant will help give you a good idea of this during your time with them.
Before going ahead with any surgery, it is important you have time to consider all the options available to you. For this reason, we can arrange a second appointment for you. At this second appointment, your consultant will talk with you again about the procedure, exploring expected results as well as any risks of possible complications you need to be aware of.
At The Alexandra Hospital, you will always see the same consultant, and they will be the one who carries out your surgery. This ensures excellent continuity of care at every stage of your treatment.
Unlike many other medical specialities, most people will not need any imaging or diagnostic scans. However, sometimes this may be necessary; for example, if you are experiencing a problem from a previous breast implant, we may need to arrange a scan to determine the extent of the problem before treatment can be planned.
Our comprehensive imaging facilities include X-ray, CT, MRI and ultrasound, so we can arrange any of these for you if required.
