Private hip pain treatment at The Priory Hospital

Hip-pain-of-senior-woman-at-home
The Priory Hospital is the largest private hospital in Birmingham, offering an expansive range of orthopaedic treatment options to help you manage your hip pain.

Hip pain is extremely common, affecting people of all ages. It is generally more common in older people, because the cartilage (a tough, flexible tissue) that cushions and protects your joints can become worn out as you age. This causes your bones underneath to become increasingly damaged and painful, a condition also known as osteoarthritis that is found very frequently in your hip.

You can also experience hip pain caused by arthritis if you are younger. This is more likely to be rheumatoid arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease that happens when your immune system attacks healthy cells in your joints by mistake. Children can have arthritis, too. This is called juvenile arthritis, or children's arthritis, and is thought to be caused by an autoimmune problem.

Hip pain - no matter your age or stage in life - can severely affect and limit your movement, preventing you from performing usual, everyday movements such as bending, sitting, and even standing. This can have a knock-on impact on how you live daily life, and sometimes interfere with your emotional wellbeing, as well as your physical.

You don't have to put up with hip pain. Call or book online today to find out how one of our consultants can help you.

Your private room: what you can expect

Your private room will be complete with temperature control, as well as a television and nurse call system. Our bedrooms feature an ensuite accessible toilet and shower to help you use the bathroom safely, and sofa beds if your loved one or carer would like to stay with you overnight. Your healthcare team will be on hand to get you whatever you need to feel as comfortable as possible.

Your hip surgeon in Birmingham will uncover the cause of your hip pain at your first consultation with them, when they will carefully examine your hip to check for pain points and listen for a popping or snapping sound that can sometimes be associated with advanced stages of arthritis.

After examining your hip, your consultant might send you to have an X-ray with one of our radiologists. X-rays look inside your body at your bones and soft tissue to examine the extent of damage to your hip. They are one of the most effective ways to examine your bones, helping identify abnormalities or damage in any bones across your body. After determining the cause of your hip pain, your hip surgeon will discuss the kind of treatment options available to you and which option best suits your needs. You can ask your consultant any questions you like about your treatment for hip pain at The Priory. They are there to provide as much information as possible and put your mind at ease, should you have any concerns about what to expect from treatment.

Our imaging centre at The Priory

At The Priory Hospital in Birmingham, we have an advanced imaging and diagnostics centre to help diagnose your concern as quickly as possible. We have also recently opened a new MRI and CT centre located on the ground floor of our hospital next to the main reception. You might need an MRI scan or CT scan to take a closer, more detailed look at your soft tissues, for example if your consultant thinks you have injuries to your ligaments (fibrous, connective tissue that attaches bone to bone) or tendons (fibrous tissue that attaches muscle to bone), which might be causing you pain and swelling.

"A five-star review for a five-star experience. Thank you ever so much for looking after me so well. I was frightened at first, but you made me feel at ease. You should all be proud of yourselves and deserve recognition for your hard work."
