Tinnitus counselling to manage and treat tinnitus noise

Tinnitus is when you experience ringing or other noises in one or both of your ears.

What is Tinnitus counselling?

Tinnitus counselling is an Audiological discipline which deals in the information, management and treatment of tinnitus noise. Tinnitus counselling can include:

  • Advice on hearing and the mechanisms of tinnitus awareness
  • Sleep hygiene information and bedside masking devices
  • Sound therapy (environmental enrichment and tinnitus ear level maskers)
  • Relaxation advice and dealing with associated or underlying anxiety

What are the benefits?

One of the main benefits of Tinnitus counselling is that you will have a greater understanding of what tinnitus is and why tinnitus is heard. For many people this can help reduce the anxieties caused by tinnitus and the stress response.

Tinnitus counselling can also help you control the tinnitus noise and the effect it has on concentration. Finally, it can help improve your quality of life by reducing self imposed barriers and unhelpful behaviours.

How safe is the treatment?

Tinnitus counselling is safe and proven effective. By understanding and adopting new behaviours your awareness of tinnitus is reduced therefore lowering your emotional response.
