Personal Profile
Dr Campbell qualified from Birmingham University in 1994 with honours in medicine.
After his initial training, he was offered a research fellowship in Edinburgh where he achieved an MD under the training of Professor Subrata Ghosh examining immunomodulatory therapy in inflammatory bowel disease.
In 2001 he achieved a place in the Oxford Deanery where he continued to develop interests in IBD and drug therapy, while getting extensive training in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), coeliac disease as well as interests in advanced endoscopic techniques.
In 2004 he undertook an Advanced Endoscopy Fellowship at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, receiving training from Professor Tony Morris. He trained in colonoscopy, endomucosal resection as well as running the capsule endoscopy service there.
He has published and presented more than 100 original research posters and articles, published books and chapters in the field of inflammatory bowel disease. Appointed at Manchester Royal Infirmary as Consultant Gastroenterologist in 2006-2014 and became the IBD/research lead for the department in 2009. Now a predominantly private practitioner with NHS appointments in specialist endoscopy and bowel cancer screening.
He is Honorary Senior Lecturer a both Salford University and Manchester University and Scientific Advisor for Crohn's and Colitis UK.
Royal College tutor for Manchester Royal Infirmary (2012-13), a BSG IBD committee member(2012-2015, BSG IPC committee member (2015-) and an accredited bowel cancer screening colonoscopist.
In 2013 he was appointed as editorial board member for Crohn's and Colitis UK and was made Fellow of Royal College of Physicians.
