Personal profile

North East trained specialist urologist Mr. Gowardhan was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Sunderland Royal Hospital in 2009. He has a diverse range of expertise in urology, both general core urology as well as specialised services in cancer management. He has extensive experience in Laparoscopic Kidney surgery and is a leading expert in Robotic Radical Prostatectomy (Da Vinci robot) for prostate cancer at Sunderland Royal Hospital.

Having trained in the Northeast as a Specialist Registrar, he has been exposed to almost all aspects of urological surgery and has gained the necessary skill set to assess and manage most urological conditions. Mr Gowardhan has good experience in core urological procedures such as TURP, TUR BT, Circumcisions, Scrotal procedures, Vasectomy and Cystoscopy – both rigid and flexible. Additionally, he is experienced in performing basic ureteroscopic procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic indications.

He has been working with BMI Woodlands offering private and NHS urology services since 2010 and is registered with most private insurance companies.

In addition to his clinical commitments, Mr Gowardhan is a clinical and educational supervisor for foundation, core and speciality trainees in Urology. He is an official trainer for specialty trainees in urology as well as an appraiser for consultants at Sunderland Royal Hospital. With over 10 years experience as Clinical Governance lead for Urology. He has completed the North East Leadership Academy training course in Clinical Leadership.
