Personal Profile

Professor Scholefield has been a General and Colorectal Surgeon from 1994. He trained in Sheffield and at St Marks’ Hospital, London.

Professor Scholefield’s major clinical interests are in colorectal and anal cancer; as well as benign conditions such as hernias, haemorrhoids, fistulas and fissures.

Professor Scholefield was Professor of Surgery and head of the Academic Division of Surgery from 2009 to 2017 when he retired from the NHS.

Professor Scholefield’s major clinical interests are in colorectal and anal cancer; as well as benign conditions such as hernias, haemorrhoids, fistulas and fissures. Professor Scholefield has a long-standing interest in bowel cancer screening and was Chair of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Clinical Advisory Group 2015-2017.

Professor Scholefield has published over 175 peer reviewed papers, edited four surgical textbooks and contributed chapters to more than 15 other textbooks
