Personal Profile

Ms Shohista Saidkasimova is an highly skilled and experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon based at the Gartnavel General Hospital and Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

Ms Saidkasimova completed Basic Surgical and Higher Specialist training in ophthalmology in 2008 in the West of Scotland. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (London) in 2009 and completed medical retina advanced subspecialty training and a vitreoretinal fellowship at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow. Ms Saidkasimova undertook further Advanced Vitreoretinal Fellowship training at the renowned St Thomas' Hospital in London in 2009. 

Since then, she has gained expertise as a consultant ophthalmologist achieving excellent outcomes for patients using the latest surgical techniques. Ms Saidkasimova tailors the surgical treatment options to her patients' lifestyle needs and has an empathetic and holistic approach to put patients’ minds at ease.  

Ms Saidkasimova is actively involved in the training of the new generation of ophthalmologists and is the Training lead for the British and Eire Vitreoretinal Society, as well as an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. 

She has wide-ranging academic interests relating to ophthalmology and is considered an expert in suprachoroidal space interventions, having published widely in peer-reviewed journals on topics related to her specialties, including a textbook, as well as giving invited international talks. She is leading on multicentre research trials to explore ways to improve patient outcomes. 

Additionally, Ms Saidkasimova has dedicated her free time to a number of charitable projects in Jerusalem, Ethiopia, Myanmar, Uzbekistan, and at the Turkish-Syrian border.
