Personal Profile

Ms Suzannah Drummond is a Consultant Ophthalmic, Cataract and Oculoplastic Surgeon at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, Gartnavel General Hospital, Glasgow, which is the largest eye department and centre of excellence for eyes in Scotland. Concurrently, she works at the Royal Hospital for Children where she specialises in paediatric oculoplastics taking referrals for paediatric ptosis from all over Scotland.

Ms Drummond studied medicine at the University of Newcastle where she graduated with distinction in 1996. She completed a seven year ophthalmic training program at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, Glasgow, and subsequently completed a one-year advanced oculoplastic fellowship in Glasgow. This was followed by a second international oculoplastic fellowship at the world-renowned University of British Columbia, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Vancouver, Canada. 

Ms Drummond's main research interests include thyroid eye disease, paediatric ptosis and periorbital inflammation. She has won prizes throughout her career including the William Lister Royal College of Ophthalmologists Travel Award 2010, the Ethicon Foundation Scholarship 2010 and Scottish Ophthalmological Club prizes in 2003, 2007 and 2011. Ms Drummond has an active interest in teaching and has set up and now runs courses for both the Part 1 FRCOphth exam (for ophthalmologists in training) and an oculoplastic wet lab skills course. She also participates in training for the prestigious Oculoplastic and Oncology fellowship at the Tennent Institute, where she trains oculoplastic surgeons from all over the world.

Additionally, Ms Drummond is on the UK Royal College of Ophthalmologists surgical training faculty, which trains junior surgeons throughout the UK. She is a council member of the Scottish Ophthalmological Club, a member of the Scottish Oculoplastic Group, the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society and is a trustee for Fiona’s Eye fund, a charity which funds overseas eyecare (fionaseyefund.com). She has given over 30 national and international presentations and published widely in highly regarded peer review journals. She is a reviewer for the British Journal of ophthalmology and Oculoplastic and Reconstruction (OPRS) journal.
