I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at BMI The Beaumont Hospital and the Royal Bolton Hospital. I was appointed in 1997 and have wide experience in all aspects of trauma and orthopaedic surgery. My practice now concentrates on surgery of the knee and sports related trauma.

I qualified from the University of Manchester in 1986 and trained in the North West. I have visited many knee units in the UK, Europe and the USA and have been awarded a doctorate (MD) for work into anterior cruciate ligament injury.

My clinical interests include arthroscopic knee surgery, meniscus repair, knee ligament reconstruction, surgery for the younger patient with arthritis, osteotomy around the knee, partial and total knee replacement and revision knee replacement.

I am actively involved in research, audit, training and medical education. I organise and lead courses training junior surgeons in the techniques of knee surgery. I am an examiner for the Intercollegiate Specialty Board in the specialist FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination. I am a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK), the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the British Medical Association (BMA).

He is a senior trainer of junior surgeons, and works on UK national training committees for the Royal College of Surgeons.

He is now on the board of the Joint Committee for Intercollegiate Examinations responsible for all surgical (FRCS) examinations in the UK.

In addition to my clinical work, I am active in the regional and national training, serving on national Orthopaedic Surgical training committees.
