His undergraduate training began with an open scholarship to Oxford (preclinical), and clinical at the Royal London Hospital (clinical) He qualified in 1981.
His cardiology training was between 1987-1991 at the National Heart Hospital and Royal Brompton Hospital London. In 1991-1994 he was senior registrar at Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. In 1994 he was appointed Consultant Cardiologist where he helped set up the Trent Cardiac Centre in Nottingham University Hospitals. He gained an MD on catheter ablation 1992 and has published papers on ablation, pacing, defibrillators and stents. He is a member of the British Medical Association and Heart Rhythm UK.
Dr Ahsan has a wide breadth of experience working in all aspects of cardiology in a tertiary care cardiac centre, having more than 30 years of specialist cardiology experience. He has been fortunate to acquire a wealth of experience in managing a wide variety of complex cardiac conditions.
If you have complex health problems, then it is advisable to bring a referral letter from your GP to facilitate consultation. However Dr Ahsan is happy to provide a consultation without a referral letter if you wish to do so but would wish to inform your GP of any plans for treatment. Please bring a list of current medication and, if you have any, hospital summaries or copies of ECGs as access to NHS information is very limited.
You are encouraged to bring a partner or friend to the consultation as this often helps to take in a lot of information.
New patient appointments are up to 50 minutes long, to allow plenty of time for a full history, examination and discussions. Follow up appointments are up to 25 minutes duration.
