Personal Profile

Mr Sanjeev Chitnis qualified as a doctor (MBBS) in 1978. He did his Basic Surgical Training in the North of England followed by Higher Specialist Training in Orthopaedics in and around the London area. He has fellowships in Glasgow and Edinburgh Royal Colleges and has done a MSc in Orthopaedics from London University/Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He has trained alongside some world-renowned Orthopaedic Surgeons and has done a Specialist Fellowship in Hand Surgery.

Mr Chitnis has worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon since 1992, initially in the South of England and overseas, and was appointed as a Consultant at The Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley in 1996 with specialist interest in hand and knee surgery. He has done research in most of his specialist fields with some multi-centre trials on cartilage transplant surgery.

Mr Chitnis has been involved in education in anatomy. He has been a Council Member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, he is a tutor for Glasgow Royal College, an examiner for the MRCS and FRCS examinations, a member of the Surgical Examination Board, he sits on the Standard Setting Committee for FRCS examinations and MRCS Standard Setting Group. He is a member of the FRCS Orth Question Unity Group, the West of Scotland Post-Graduate Committee and is a trainer and examiner of Glasgow Medical School students.

Mr Chitnis has been working at Ross Hall Hospital since 1996. In January 2021, he retired from the NHS but continues to work privately from Ross Hall Hospital. He does clinics and carries out a wide range of surgical procedures in his field of hand and knee surgery. He also provides consultations and treatment for shoulder and elbow problems as well as other orthopaedic conditions.
