Dr Alok Tyagi graduated in 1988 from the University of Delhi, India. He completed his MBBS and MD from the Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi and is also a Diplomate of the National Board of examinations in India. He then pursued a career in Neurology and was a trainee Senior Resident at GB Pant Hosipital in New Delhi where he completed DM in Neurology, gaining the degree from the University of Delhi in 1997.

Dr Tyagi then completed higher training in Neurology in the British Isles prior to taking up his post as a Consultant Neurologist at the Institute of Neurological Sciences, Southern General Hospital, Glasgow in 2003. Dr Tyagi’s interest in headache disorders was generated when he did a dedicated headache clinic during his training in Ireland. Subsequent to taking up his Consultant post he did an honorary attachment at the Headache Group, National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery, London. Dr Tyagi has also been a visiting Professor at the Jefferson Headache Centre, Philadelphia.

Dr Tyagi set up the headache service at the Institute of Neurological Sciences in Glasgow and this is now one of the largest services in the UK for patients with headache disorders. He has been instrumental in arranging for the provision of a number of new treatments for patients with headache disorders in Glasgow, most of which were not previously available in Scotland.

Dr Tyagi has a particular interest in the management of intractable headache disorders including chronic migraine. Dr Tyagi also has a keen interest in headache education, both for patients and health professionals, and is a regular speaker at headache meetings in the UK.
