Personal Profile

Following Mr Enrique Saavedra’s Orthopaedic training he began his first Consultant post at Central Middlesex Hospital in 1998 moving on to Imperial College, Charing Cross Hospital. Since 2003 Mr Saavedra has had a substantive post at Ealing Hospital as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with various roles including Clinical Head of Department.

Mr Saavedra has developed a specialist interest in all aspects of knee surgery with a super specialist interest in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using both autograft and allograft. He has been using PRP injections for around 10 years and has treated a significant number of patients with the procedure. The results are encouraging

There have been new techniques introduced to the surgical world with the arrival of Robotic knee surgery. It has become a more common technique in the past 3-5 years with the overall aim to improve the outcome of surgery. Mr Saavedra is certified to carry out navigated assisted robotic surgery with the MAKO robot from Stryker company and with the NAVIO system from Smith and Nephew company.

Mr Saavedra works closely with a team of Physiotherapists and has created protocols for his patients with the aim of getting the best possible outcome to post operation and from treatment.

Throughout Mr Saavedra’s career he has taken a keen interest in training and research and has reviewed a number of medical publications. Mr Saavedra is on the review panel for the European Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery (EJOST) and the International Society for Orthopaedic Surgery (SICOT) Mr Saavedra has published papers on the influence of PRP following Knee Replacement surgery and preventing blood loss post op.

Mr Saavedra takes his patient feedback as seriously as he does the care of his patients. Please see below a patient testimony:

“Mr Saavedra carried out an arthroscopy on my knee in September 2020. I cannot thank him enough for the wonderful care he provided me prior, during and after my surgery. He is caring and compassionate and always makes time for his patients. In the current post-COVID era, any medical procedure has an added level of complexity. Mr Saavedra provided the reassurance I required and his excellent secretary, Nicola, was always available to answer any queries. I am so pleased that my GP recommended Mr Saavedra to me and I wish him every success for the future.”
