Mr John McLoughlin has been in post as a consultant urologist at West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust since 1994.

Mr McLoughlin has a special interest in prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. He is a member of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) prostate cancer guidelines development group and is also the national lead for the Informed Decision Making (IDM) programme for benign prostatic enlargement and prostate cancer.

Regionally, Mr McLoughlin has been involved in Service Improvement Work for the former West Anglian Cancer Collaborative and Mid Anglia Cancer Collaborative. In addition, he was the former programme director for East Anglian Urological Training and is a current member of the Regional Peer Review Team for Urological Cancer and the Site Specific Group for Urological Cancer.

Mr McLoughlin has published in several areas of urology. He is a journal referee for the Journal of Andrology, Prostate Cancer and Cancer Diseases and the British Journal of Urology International. He is also the expert advisor for the Prostate Cancer Charity.

Mr McLoughlin holds weekly clinics at St Edmunds Hospital where he offers a prostate assessment and prostate mapping service.
