Personal Profile

Mr Rahul Kakkar has been on the Specialist Register (Certificate of Completion of Training in Trauma & Orthopaedics) since September 2013.

He is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, specialising in all elective upper limb surgery and general trauma.

Mr Kakkar's main interests are in reconstructive surgery in the upper limb, and in the treatment of degenerative and sports injuries. Approximately two-thirds of his work is hand and wrist surgery, with the rest being shoulder and elbow surgery. He also performs multiple lower limb surgeries for general trauma.

He operates on the full range of commonly seen elective hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder cases, as well as more complex procedures, such as wrist ligament reconstruction, wrist arthroscopy and joint replacement in the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder.

Mr Kakkar is a keen teacher and am on the faculty for the ChM - Trauma & Orthopaedics course run by Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. In addition, he examines on FRCS (Orth) Upper limb and Basic Sciences revision course at Wrightington Hospital.

He has contributed to chapters in Postgraduate Orthopaedic books and examines medical students at the University of Lancaster. He is the Foundation Programme Director for his trust, looking after the Foundation Year 2 doctors.
